The pharmaceutical division Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine, together with the medical technology division Johnson & Johnson MedTech, forms the global healthcare company Johnson & Johnson (J&J).
The pharmaceutical division has been a central part of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies since 1961. The foundations for this were laid by the revolutionary Belgian researcher Dr. Paul Janssen. In Germany, J&J Innovative Medicine has about 1,000 employees and is the number 2 among research-based pharmaceutical companies. The German headquarters are located in Neuss, North Rhine-Westphalia.
Every day, J&J invests around 30.3 million euros worldwide in the research and development of new drugs, including in the fields of oncology, immunology and neuroscience. 15 of the company's active ingredients are on the 23rd WHO Model List of Essential Medicines. In 2023, approximately 460,000 patients in Germany were treated with a prescription product from J&J.
