Quantum Computing: Readiness & Outlook

Information

Panel powered by Fraunhofer

Quantum computing promises a technological revolution – from solving complex optimization problems to simulating molecules for drug development. But there is a huge gap between visionary future scenarios and today's reality. How close are we to commercially viable applications? This panel brings together experts from applied research (Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft) and industry to take a critical look at the current state of quantum applications and the (economic) relevance of quantum computing. Which use cases are already tangible? Where do we really stand technologically? And what challenges still need to be overcome? The aim is to separate hype from reality and highlight realistic perspectives regarding the applicability of quantum computing.

Fraunhofer-GesellschaftBooth 35 | Fraunhofer-GesellschaftThe Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, headquartered in Germany, is one of the world’s leading organizations for applied research. It plays a major role in innovation by prioritizing research on cutting-edge technologies and the transfer of results to industry to strengthen Germany’s industrial base and for the benefit of society as a whole. Since its founding as a nonprofit organization in 1949, Fraunhofer has held a unique position in the German research and innovation ecosystem. The Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has set itself the task of researching the diverse potential of quantum computing for economic and scientific applications. To achieve this, a national network based on regional Competence Centers was founded: The Fraunhofer Competence Network Quantum Computing. The Network stands for the development of a quantum ecosystem and for intensive networking - within the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft as well as with partners and customers from research and industry. The participating Fraunhofer Institutes serve a broad spectrum of application fields: Logistics, the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, the financial and energy sectors, materials science, IT security technologies and many more. The Fraunhofer- Alliance for Big Data and Artificial Intelligence combines a broad range of industry expertise and years of experience of more than 30 Fraunhofer institutes. They support companies on their way to becoming a data-driven company by implementing Big Data and AI strategies and developing AI applications and systems which are transparent, trustworthy and reliable and comply with European data protection regulations. The extensive training program helps to meet the growing demand for experts in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.
